As part of its continuous efforts to provide a vital and safe link between Salwa Road and Dukhan Highway, Ashghal has completed the QR390mn, 20.5km first and second phases of the Rawdat Rashed Road Development Project.

Another 13km of road works need to be completed for complete connectivity between Salwa Road and Dukhan Highway. The works of the two phases started in the first quarter of 2015 as part of its Local Roads and Drainage Programme.

The two phases included the construction of a road consisting of three lanes in each direction. In the QR 182mn Phase 1, the road stretches from Salwa Road for a distance of about 8.5km towards the north where it intersects with the main roundabout that connects the southern side of Rawdat Rashid Village.

The QR208mn Phase 2 covers a distance of 12km bypassing Rawdat Rashed Village. In addition, eight intersections (roundabouts) were constructed within the two phases.

The Phase 1 was implemented by Alcat Contracting Company and Phase 2 was done by Bin Omran Trading & Contracting Company. They were implemented under the supervision of consultants AECOM Middle East.

The road was opened to traffic yesterday in the presence of Ashghal senior engineer and Roads Projects Department manager Saoud Ali al-Tamimi, Shura Council member and General Facilities and Services Committee head Sager bin Fahad al-Muraikhi, Al Sheehaniya Municipality manager Mohamed Saif Tashal al-Hajri, Ministry of Transport and Communications' Land Transport Planning Department manager Rashid Taleb al-Nabit, Ministry of Interior's Traffic Safety and Engineering Department director Brigadier Mohamed Marafia, Central Municipal Council members Khalid Abdullah al-Ghali al-Marri (22nd constituency), Mohamed Dhafer al-Hajri (23rd constituency) and local officials Sayed bin Sager al-Muraikhi and Rashid bin Salim al-Muraikhi.

The phases 1 and 2 are part of the main projects to develop Rawdat Rashed Road, which has been divided into five different phases with the aim to facilitate the implementation of works and minimise the impact of construction works on the area’s residents and visitors.

The upcoming third phase of the project, starts at the end of Phase 2 and extends for a distance of 13km northbound to the intersection between Lebsayyer Road and Dukhan Highway.

The Phases 4 and 5 will include improving the connection between Rawdat Rashed Road and existing bridges on Salwa and Dukhan Highways.

One of the most important upgrades being implemented within the project is the diversion of the the heavy vehicle traffic away from the residential area, which is currently passing through Rawdat Rashed area. This is in addition to separating the main traffic movement from the local roads in Rawdat Rashed residential area, which is expected to have a positive impact on all residents and visitors of the area.
