A glittering prize distribution ceremony was organised by the Qatar Cricket Association to honour the Qatar Airways Cricket Tournament 2016 winners.
The function was attended by more than 90 guests, officials and players at Holiday Villa Hotel.
Al Feroz Youngsters had won the Division A crown, while the Division B championship was claimed by Tusker Club and Europe Travels emerged the winners in the Division C. It is worth mentioning that more than 60 teams contest for three titles every year.
Qatar Airways Ticketing Operation manager Ali Akbar Farabi was the chief guest.
The QCA officials present on the occasion included QCA president MA Shahid, general secretary Manzoor Ahmad, Domestic Cricket head Gul Khan and Technical Committee head Syed Hassan Raza among others.
Farabi, besides extending his warm congratulations to the champion teams, said, “We’re delighted to gather here once again to celebrate another year of hard work and success by teams and players, contesting in the Qatar Airways Cricket Tournament 2016.
“Qatar Airways and the Qatar Cricket Association have been working together to elevate the standards of the sport in the country. With the Qatar team putting in improved showing at the international level, our long association deserves a fair share of this success. I want to congratulate all the winners and wish they will continue to excel in the future,” Farabi added.
Shahid thanked Qatar Airways and its CEO Akbar al-Baker, and said, “The QCA is proud with the way the game is progressing in the nation. A lot of credit must go to our long-time partner Qatar Airways for supporting our various activities. We wish this relationship grows well beyond many more years to come.”
On this occasion, QCA general secretary Ahmad said, “The sport has grown in Qatar many folds over the years. Every year, we’re taking measures which help the game and players. We’ll continue our efforts as we have a long way to go. Qatar Airways has been playing a crucial role in rising level of local cricket.
“We all congratulate the champion teams for their success. In the next season, we hope more teams would lift their level and challenge the winners strongly, which will make the matches tougher and more interesting,” he added.
