A Doha Criminal Court has fined an expatriate driver of a workers’ bus QR20,000 and ordered him to pay a blood money of QR600,000 in collaboration with the insurance company concerned to the legal heirs of three passengers who died in an accident. Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the bus was heading from Al Khor to Doha through Al Khor Coastal Road, when one of the rear tyres exploded suddenly. As the driver was speeding, he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned several times. Three of the workers on board died and 12 others sustained several injuries. The driver claimed he was driving at a normal speed and did not exceed 100km/h but lost control of the vehicle because of the sudden tyre burst. However, police reports on the accident indicated he was speeding.
