The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is leading a month long campaign across Qatar’s leading malls to mark the international Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As part of its goal to reach a wider audience and significantly increase the level of knowledge and awareness among Qatar's population about breast cancer, PHCC has set up Activation Booths at four of Qatar’s most popular malls, with the intention to engage with shoppers at the high footfall locations.
During the first two weeks of the month, a team of PHCC’s specialised liaison staff were present at Ezdan Mall and Gulf Mall. For the remaining two weeks, PHCC educational teams will be located at Landmark and Villaggio Mall.
“Raising awareness about breast cancer screening is an incredibly important aspect of our team’s work. By installing Activation Booths across Qatar’s most popular malls we are ensuring that knowledge and awareness about the benefits of early screening is reaching a greater number of people,” Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, cancer programme manager, PHCC, said.
A number of specialised liaison staff are available for visitors to speak to at each of PHCC’s Activation Booths, offering guidance and advice on the right process of screening. They are also on-hand to raise awareness of available facilities across Qatar and will be highlighting the importance of screening. Visitors can also register to be called by PHCC’s Cancer Screening call centre to make a screening appointment if they are women aged 45 years or older.
In addition to the Activation Booths, PHCC is also showcasing its Mobile Breast Screening Unit. The unit, the first of its kind in Qatar, will initially focus on offering Mammography. During October, visitors will be able to find out more about the mobile unit and its capabilities while it travels between the mall locations.
“We are undertaking a number of initiatives to spread awareness throughout Qatar and by allowing people to experience the Mobile Mammogram Screening Unit alongside our Activation Booths, we expect to reach a significant number of people. By working together with the malls, we are engaging with an important sector of the community,” Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha added.
