El Jaish kept up the pressure on league leaders Lekhwiya and Al Sadd as they made it three from three in their opening Qatar Stars League (QSL) games beating Al Khor 1-0 at Lekhwiya stadium in yesterday’s only game.
El Jaish, who were without their new summer signing, ex-FC Barcelona player Seydou Keita, took control of the game from the opening whistle and had an early penalty shout after just 10 minutes when Brazilian playmaker Romario, went down in the box after a surging run.
The referee, however, was quick to wave on play despite protests from the Brazilian and replays suggesting it should have been a penalty.
Al Khor composed themselves after the early penalty shout against them and began pressing the home side from midfield. As the clock hit the 15 minute mark, The Knights’ Brazilian midfield playmaker, Madson, hit a volley on his left foot on the edge of the 18 yard box that, had the woodwork not denied him, may have made him an early contender for goal of the season.
Just minutes later and against the run of play, El Jaish’s Qatari number 18, Abdulaziz al-Yazidi, struck a low shot from 20 yards out that hit the arm of Al Khor’s captain Naif Mubarak who was sliding to block the shot, a mistake that gifted The Soldiers a penalty.
Silva stepped up and sent Al Khor’s goalkeeper, Baba Djibril, the wrong way to take an easy 1-0 lead into half time.
Despite Al Khor starting the second-half well, the visitors were not able to create any clear chances and El Jaish were happy to see out an uneventful second half and take three points that will see them go top of the QSL league table.
Lekhwiya and Al Sadd play each other on Sunday night.

Al Ahli confirm double signing
QSL Side Al Ahli has further strengthened their squad ahead of their third round clash against Al Wakrah. The clubs official website confirmed the signings of Ahmed al-Saadi and
Abdulaziz al-Sulaiti.
The pair has signed a one year deal with the Brigadiers. It’s been a busy summer for Ahli who have brought in a host of local players to strengthen their squad. The duo will now join up with the squad; however it is unlikely they will take part in the tie against Al Wakrah today evening.
