HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, adviser at the Emiri Diwan, and Qatar’s candidate to the post of director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural OrganiSation (Unesco), yesterday met in Beijing with China’s Education Vice Minister Hao Ping.
During the meeting, the Qatari candidate presented his vision for the advancement of Unesco and the challenges facing the organisation and outlined his plan to deal with them, stressing the attention of the State of Qatar and the People’s Republic of China to the goals of the Organisation and their endeavours to support it in different sectors.
After extensive discussions, the Chinese side appreciated Qatar’s candidate, praised his vast experience that would enable him to play a big role at Unesco, and expressed China’s appreciation for the role of Qatar and the Gulf states in support of Unesco in the sectors of education, culture and heritage.
The meeting was attended by a number of senior education officials in China, Qatar’s ambassador to China Sultan bin Salmeen al-Mansouri, and Secretary-General of the Chinese National Commission for Unesco Du Yue.
