Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the ongoing UCI Road World Championships – Doha 2016, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has stressed.
Qatar is hosting the event, which features around 1,000 racers from 75 countries and more than 5,700 participants from national federations, delegations, technicians and journalists, until October 16.
The cycling meet has been “witnessing great success across all aspects”, with the championship operations room working round the clock to ensure the security of participants and fans, according to a press statement from the MoI.
Captain Engineer Faisal Ali al-Hinzad from the Communications Department said the operations room is working in full swing and is linked to security patrols through the 4G LTE network of the MoI. The network provides “very high-speed impenetrable data transfer (voice, image and video) safely and confidentially” and is also well-equipped to provide unlimited services that suits the needs and requirements of the security authorities, including the tracking of patrols, service calls, live broadcast for patrols along with media exchange between patrols and systems, it was observed.
First Lieutenant Engineer Amir Abdul Hadi al-Soufan al-Ahbabi said the Communications Department has equipped a number of bikes and other vehicles of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and Traffic Department with the MoI’s 4G LTE network, which is to be used for security monitoring during the championship and follow up on cycling routes. Besides, a number of mobile stations have been set up to avoid any interruption in the network.
Meanwhile, First Lieutenant Engineer Rashid Fahad al-Ali from the MoI’s Security Systems Department said the department is working round the clock to ensure the security of all by monitoring the event through latest surveillance cameras and control rooms. He explained that as part of the “Talaa” project, the department has supplied and installed surveillance cameras with the latest technology specifications and which are connected to the National Command Centre (NCC), in collaboration with the Central Operations Department and Traffic, to monitor major streets and observe crimes and violations.
First Lieutenant Engineer Abdullah Mubarak al-Faihani from the Technical Affairs Department of NCC said the department had taken part in preparations for a mini operations room for the cycling championship, featuring all the necessary systems to stay connected with the National Command Centre.
Further, Lieutenant Fahad Ahmad al-Mulla and Lieutenant Engineer Mohamed Eissa al-Shuraim from Lekhwiya stressed that the Communications and Operations Department of Lekhwiya was prepared to support the Operations Rooms and meet the needs of Lekhwiya forces through communication devices, cameras and other security systems.
