The Qatar Fund for Development (QFD) has extended urgent donations valued at $500,000 to the victims of Hurricane Matthew that struck Haiti last week, leaving hundreds dead and tens of thousands displaced.
According to a statement issued by the QFD, Qatar’s donations were a quick response to the appeals launched by the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs  to extend relief to the affected people and increase the capacity of local authorities to respond to the disaster.
The statement pointed out that the Qatari assistance aimed to ensure that tens of thousands of affected families in Haiti received necessary support and aid, and to focus efforts on reducing the devastating effects of Hurricane Matthew on the relief sector, healthcare and water as well as the provision of shelter to those affected.
