The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) yesterday published the 21st issue of the monthly Statistics of Building Permits issued by municipalities in the country.
Building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy, MDPS said in a press statement yesterday.
The press release is intended to give a brief overview of the nature of the monthly permits in terms of their geographical distribution (according to the municipalities) and types of these permits (buildings, additions, fencing) as well as details about categories of the different types of buildings, whether they are residential or non-residential.
The statement said Rayyan municipality (including Sheehaniya) comes at the top where the number of building permits issued was 116, ie; 32% of the total permits issued while Doha municipality came second with 85 (24%), followed by Al Wakrah with 58 (16%), Al Da’ayen 40 (11%).
The other municipalities were: Umm Salal 27 (7%), Al Khor 26 (7%), and Al Shamal 9 (3%).
In terms of the type of permits issued, the data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 53% (192 permits) of the total building permits issued during September 2016, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 44% (159 permits), and fencing permits 3% (10 permits).
