Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) will host the Second International Arbitration Conference in Doha on October 18 and 19.
QICCA board member, HE Sheikh Thani bin Ali bin Saud al-Thani spoke during a press conference to discuss Qatar National Bank’s (QNB) sponsorship of the event.
Sheikh Thani said that the conference aims to exchange expertise with global and regional arbitration centres.
The conference also promotes arbitration as a method of settling commercial disputes in an efficient manner, that would enhance Qatar’s position as an investment destination in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Sheikh Thani said that there were 490 participants so far.
The conference’s workshops will see the participation of a number of international and regional experts.
Sheikh Thani added that the conference would focus on a number of main subjects, including a review of the Qatari arbitration texts and related court rulings, the role of GCC arbitration centres in developing an investment-friendly environment, modern trends in arbitration, updating Qatari legislation to create an attractive ground for investments, integration between Qatari laws and international treaties to protect the rights of Qatari investors abroad and the role of the national judiciary in supporting and controlling commercial arbitration and implementation of the arbitrators’ rulings.
