The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded motorists to strictly follow road markings and observe lane discipline to ensure the safety of all road users.
Road markings, for which paint is used besides other tools, comprise an important traffic regulation mechanism and can be found on roads, pavements and sidewalks.
These provide motorists with information that “guides, orients or warns” them during driving, the MoI said in a post on its Facebook page.
Motorists should be aware of these signs and markings and abide by them in order to maintain lane discipline and ensure the safety of road users, the ministry said.
Further, the post stressed that changing lanes without using a vehicle’s indicators could cause accidents.
“Are you always attentive to road markings? What are the common mistakes motorists make in connection with road markings?” the MoI asked, inviting the public to share their thoughts on the matter.
Meanwhile, the ministry advised motorists – through a post on Twitter – to stick to the speed limit and not to use the mobile phone while driving.
As part of its efforts to crack down on errant driving practices in the country, the MoI’s Traffic Department recently reported more than 800 violations on a single day.
These included 428 cases of overtaking from the right, 309 violations pertaining to motorists not using seatbelts, 52 cases of parking in slots designated for persons with disabilities and another 52 for using mobile phones while driving, as reported in Gulf Times on September 26.
