Qatar Chamber (QC) and Georgian Chamber have signed yesterday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation ties between both countries’ business communities.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of a meeting organised by QC with members of the Georgian business delegation currently visiting Doha.
The meeting was co-chaired by the QC vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari and Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Nino Chikovani in the presence of several Qatari businessmen and representatives of Georgian companies specialising in construction, real estate, energy, tourism, and agriculture.
Al-Kuwari said: “Qatar has achieved tremendous strides in several areas of economy and there are many areas for investment. Huge projects for developing the infrastructure are being carried out here in addition to Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup projects, projects that provide major investment opportunities for international companies to set up genuine partnerships with Qatari businessmen.
“Although our countries enjoy good mutual relations, the trade volume is still below the level of our expectations. In 2015, our total trade was valued at QR390mn. We want to take this commercial relationship to a higher level.”
Al-Kuwari also assured the interest of Qatari businessmen to explore opportunities in Georgia, particularly in fields of agriculture, livestock, real estate sectors, and other sectors.
He expressed the chamber’s keenness to encourage both parties to build new partnerships for the economic benefit of both countries.
Chikovani expressed her gratitude to Qatar Chamber for hosting the meeting. She said her country appreciates cooperation with representatives of the Qatari private sector, citing the objective of the visit was to brief the Qatari business community of the available potential and opportunities in Georgia.
“We hope that the cooperation agreement signed with Qatar Chamber would contribute to achieving greater convergence and cooperation between the two sides,” she said.
