A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a Lebanese man in absentia to ten years in jail and subsequent deportation for illicit drugs trade.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Friday that the court also fined the defendant QR200,000 for the same crime. The issue started when the Drug Prevention Department of the Ministry of Interior received information from a secret source that the defendant was known to trade in illicit drugs. Besides, he offered to sell a piece marijuana to the secret source for a sum of QR2,000.

The source was instructed to go ahead with the deal. The whole process of delivery was conducted under police patrols surveillance after obtaining the required legal approvals.
At the time of the delivery, the defendant asked the source to come to his accommodation at Muaither area. When the source gave him the agreed sum and received the illicit drugs, police forces raided and searched the place. They found the sum of money and laboratory tests of the sold material confirmed that it was around 55gm of marijuana. Further, a blood test of the defendant proved that he used to consume illicit drugs. Eventually, he admitted his guilt and the court convicted him.
