Authorities from Shahaniya Municipality have shut down a grocery for one week for violating regulations by storing expired foodstuff.

The expired items were seized, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said.

Meanwhile, inspectors from the Health Control Section at the Municipal Control Department, Doha Municipality, found chicken and fish being stored and processed in unhygienic conditions in a hidden area at the back of a restaurant in Bin Omran.

A violation was issued for flouting Law No 8 of 1990 on the regulation of human food control and necessary legal procedures were initiated.

In another development, inspectors from Doha Municipality’s Health Control Section destroyed 1,100kg of fish found unfit for human consumption.

Inspection campaigns carried out by the Gharafa office of Al Rayyan Municipality led to the detection of 22 violations, by different stores, of health and food safety regulations during Eid al-Adha.

The campaigns targeted shops selling sweets, fruits and vegetables and restaurants, as well as salons and shopping malls, the MME said in a statement.

Legal action was taken against a company for dumping waste in an undesignated area, which was detected by marine patrols from the MME.
