A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced two men, an Indian and a Sri Lankan, to one year in jail for stealing from camps in the Ras Matbakh area of Al Khor.
The court has also ordered their subsequent deportation, according to local Arabic daily Arrayah.
The two men were convicted of stealing some equipment, home and kitchen appliances, clothes, blankets, cash and other items from the tents of campers at night.
During interrogation, one of the defendants admitted that he and his accomplice had stolen goods from at least eight tents in the area.
The man said the idea of stealing from tents at night occurred to him when he had accompanied his sponsor to the place earlier. So, he contacted the other defendant, who used to work for his sponsor's sons, and they agreed to use the sponsor's vehicle to go there and steal.
Accordingly, they reached the spot and used a knife to cut through the tents before stealing the items and fleeing. They also admitted to having sent some of the stolen appliances to their home countries.
