Qatar bagged the 25m Standard Pistol Men’s Team bronze medal at the ISSF Junior World Cup for rifle, pistol and shotgun in Qabala, Azerbaijan, Qatar Olympic Committee reported on its website yesterday.
Ahmad Zayed al-Shammari, Mohamed Nasser al-Yafei and Rabeaa al-Kuwari combined for a tally of 1558 with 14x to finish third behind gold-medal winning India (1655) and second-placed Australia (1645).
Al-Shammari was the top shooter for Qatar, collecting 540, while al-Yafei tallied 520 and al-Kuwari shot 498.
Al-Shammari and al-Yafei were also among the top 10 in the individual event, getting seventh and ninth places, respectively.
India’s Shambhaji Zanzan Patil emerged the individual champion, hitting 562 with 13x. He held off Australian pair of Sergei Evglevski and Thomas James Ashmore, who secured 555 and 554.
Gurmeet and Rituraj Singh, both of India, completed the top five with one target separating them. Gurmeet netted 547 and Singh hit 546 to help their team and Patil clinch the top honours.
India were on the top of the medals tally with three gold, one silver and three bronze medals. China and Norway were close behind with two gold medals each. Overall, China are in second place with five medals, including two silver, while Norway also had one bronze medal.
Qatar, with one bronze, are ninth in the table.
