A supermarket has been permanently closed down in Umm Baraka, which falls under the Al Khor and Al Thakira Municipality, for operating without the necessary licence.
Juma Khamis al-Muraikhi, director, municipality, has issued an administrative decision in this regard.
This is the fourth errant supermarket to be shut down permanently within the Al Khor and Al Thakira Municipality’s jurisdiction over the last few days for operating without permits.
The outlet in Umm Baraka was raided by the authorities concerned after the Health Inspection Section learnt that foodstuff was being sold at the supermarket without obtaining a licence. Besides, they had also received information that some Asian expatriate was involved in the illegal sale of alcohol in the vicinity of the store.
Accordingly, officers from the Health Inspection Section, Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and the investigation unit at Al Shamal Security Department carried out a joint inspection of the place after obtaining a written approval from the owner of the supermarket.
The search revealed a number of violations in the display and storage of food items, including unhygienic conditions, food left uncovered, a dirty refrigerator and supermarket employees working without valid health certificates.
Based on the findings of the inspection, the authorities issued a violation report to the outlet for flouting the relevant laws and ordered its permanent closure.
