Novak Djokovic remains totally unaffected by the fact that he has reached the semi-finals of the US Open on the back of three walkovers or retirements from opponents.
Djokovic needs to only concentrate on bringing his polished, lethal form to perfection prior to his next match against French rival Gael Monfils.
“I’m in the semifinals, so that’s what matters for me the most. I want to be able to play as well as I did in fourth round and in the quarter-finals,” Djokovic said. “Considering some physical issues I have had in the last month and a half, this was the scenario that I needed and I wished for,” he said, referring to problems with his shoulder and wrist.
“I got a lot of days off and recovered my body. Right now I’m feeling very close to the peak. That’s the position where I want to be.”
Djokovic stands an impressive 12-0 over Monfils, who is playing a grand slam semi for the first time since Roland Garros eight years ago.
“I put myself in a position again to be one match away from the finals. As tournament progresses, I feel like I’m getting better,” the 14-time grand slam winner said.
“This grand slam is very unique for me. I’ve never experienced something like this, to have three retirements on the road to the semi-finals.”
