The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) index decreased by 298.07 points, or 2.68%, during the week to close at 10,836.74. Market capitalisation decreased by 2.5% to QR580.7bn versus QR595.5bn at the end of the previous week. Of the 44 listed companies, two ended the week higher, while 42 fell. Aamal (AHCS) was the best performing stock for the week with a gain of 1.9% on 2.8mn shares traded. On the other hand, Commercial Bank of Qatar was the worst performing stock with a decline of 5.6% on 1.0mn shares traded.
Ezdan Holding Group (ERES), QNB Group (QNBK) and Qatar Insurance Co (QATI) were the primary contributors to the weekly index loss. ERES was the biggest contributor, deleting 94.5 points from the index. QNBK was the second biggest contributor to the loss, shedding 37.7 points to the index. Moreover, QATI erased 28.5 points from the index. On the other hand, AHCS added 5.8 points to the index.
Trading value during the week increased by 110.7% to reach QR1.7bn versus QR808.5mn in the prior week. The banks and financial services sector led the trading value during the week, accounting for 42.9% of the total. The industrials sector was the second biggest contributor to the overall trading value, accounting for 20.6% of the total. QNBK was the top value traded stock during the week with total traded value of QR338.7mn.
Trading volume increased by 85.0% to reach 36.7mn shares versus 19.9mn in the prior week. The number of transactions increased by 46.4% to reach 23,200 versus 15,852 in the prior week. The banks and financial services sector led the trading volume, accounting for 33.7%, followed by the Real Estate sector, which accounted for 19.5%. Masraf Al Rayan (MARK) was the top volume traded stock during the week with total traded volume of 3.8mn shares.
Foreign institutions remained bullish during the week with net buying of QR284.8mn versus buying of QR101.4mn in the prior week. Qatari institutions remained bearish with net selling of QR314.9mn versus net selling of QR105.1mn the week before. Foreign retail investors remained bullish for the week with net buying of QR37.0mn versus net buying of QR9.4mn in the prior week. Qatari retail investors remained bearish with net selling of QR6.8mn versus net selling of QR5.8mn the week before.
In 2016 year-to-date, foreign institutions bought (on a net basis) $957mn worth of Qatari equities.
