As many as 3,054 people registered to donate blood during this year’s Ramadan campaign organised by Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Blood Donor Centre.
The campaign took place throughout the Holy Month and Eid al-Fitr holidays. The total number of blood donors during the campaign was 2,264.
The busiest location was HMC’s Blood Donor Centre which saw more than 1,500 people register and 1,038 people donate.
At the City Center Doha, 753 people registered as donors while 466 donated blood. A further 773 donors registered at malls across the city and other public gatherings while 473 were able to donate.
The campaign was part of the Blood Donor Centre’s efforts at fostering a culture of voluntary blood donation throughout the community.
“During the campaign, we organised a series of blood donation events in shopping malls and other prominent locations around the country. We also took our campaign to national organisations as well as social and cultural centres with a large number of visitors taking part,” said Sediqeh al-Mahmoudi, medical manager of HMC’s Blood Donor Centre.
“We would like to thank those members of the public who registered as blood donors as well as community groups and companies who supported our efforts. We would also like to thank HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation, who has supported our campaign for four years.”
Blood donation helps save many lives in Qatar every year and there is always demand for blood and blood products.
The HMC Blood Donor Centre is located on the grounds of Hamad General Hospital near the multi-storey car park. Anyone who likes to donate blood can visit the centre between 7am and 9.30 pm daily. More information can be had by calling 44391081.
