Bodies of three Indian nationals, including one who died during a flight to Doha en route to India last week, are awaiting repatriation, inquiries have revealed.
Prominent humanitarian worker in the Indian expatriate community Abdul Salam told Gulf Times on Sunday that efforts were under way to repatriate the three bodies.
The procedures for repatriating the body of the 76-year-old Tummala Prem Prasad Reddy, (Indian Passport Number H 7482482) who died on a flight from Washington to Hyderabad on August 15, are still to be completed. He passed away after visiting his children in the US, it is learnt.
Reddy's wife was also with him at the time of his death. However, she was allowed to fly to Hyderabad after reaching Doha.
The National Humanitarian Assistance Office, which is handling the documents for repatriating bodies is still to receive mandatory documents from more than one department and hence there is a delay in repatriation, said the humanitarian worker.
However, he expressed hope that Reddy's body would be flown home this week itself after completing the necessary procedures.
Reddy died of an `acute heart failure', according to an official communique from the health authorities.
Similarly, the body of one Munshi Ram N Ram, a 55-year-old Indian expatriate worker who died of a heart attack in his accommodation is also waiting for repatriation. The death was reported on August 13, inquiries found.
Salam said the office of the sponsor of the deceased is in touch with him and the body could be flown home `any time from now'.
Most of the necessary documents have been handed over to the office for repatriating the body, he said.
Meanwhile, another Indian national Abdul Rahim Shaji (46), who worked in the Doha Municipality, died on Sunday following a heart attack. He complained of chest pain soon after his duties were over before noon and was rushed to the hospital. However Shaji died shortly afterwards.
A native of Vettoor in Kerala's Thiruvananathapuram, Shaji was in Qatar for more than 25 years, according to one of his friends.
Efforts are being made to repatriate the body, he said.
