Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar poses with his silver medal he won in the high jump event at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Barshim cleared a height of 2.36m to win the second place behind Canada’s Derek Drouin who took gold with a jump of 2.38m. This was Barshim’s second medal at the Olympics, having also won a bronze in London four years ago. Qatar’s Olympic mission, in the presence of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, celebrated Barshim’s historic achievement. Barshim dedicated his medal to HE Sheikh Joaan, expressing his gratitude for the support he received throughout his sports career in general and ahead of the Olympics in particular.
