Residents clash yesterday with police officers on the French Mediterranean island of Corsica. Approximately 500 people gathered yesterday morning at the Des Monts housing estate in Bastia’s Lupino neighbourhood, the day after a violent fight occurred in a creek by the sea in Sisco (Haute-Corse) leaving four wounded, according to an AFP journalist. A girl who witnessed the confrontation said the fight happened after a group of youths of North African origin insulted tourists who were taking pictures of women dressed in burqini (also spelled burkini).
