Chad FM hails Qatar’s role in Darfur peace

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chad, Moussa Faki, yesterday praised the significant role being played by Qatar to achieve peace in the Darfur region of Sudan and its keenness to develop it.
He said in statements to Qatari Arabic daily Arrayah that Qatar played a leading role to achieve peace in Darfur, which culminated in the signing of the Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA), stressing that the Doha Forum is the platform for dialogue to bring peace to Darfur.
Faki urged the non-signatory armed movements of the Darfur Peace Agreement to engage in the peace process, adding: “We are trying to contact these movements who have to understand that negotiation and dialogue are the way to achieve peace, development and stability and resolve the crisis” in Darfur.
The Chadian top diplomat welcomed those who want peace and are keen to join the Doha Agreement, stressing that the Doha forum is the foundation for any peace process.
On Chad’s role in Darfur, Faki said his country is member on the Follow-Up Committee of the Darfur Peace headed by the State of Qatar and it is working in co-ordination and co-operation with Qatar and all parties concerned.
Faki also stressed that the border between Chad and Sudan has become safe and free of armed movements.

Qatar condemns bombings in Thailand

Qatar has strongly condemned and denounced the bombings that took place in Thailand and resulted in several deaths and injuries.
In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of  Foreign Affairs said that such criminal acts that target innocent people contravene all moral values, and principles of humanity.  
The Ministry’s statement reiterates Qatar’s firm stance rejecting violence in all its forms and manifestations, and whatever the motives and justifications. It reaffirms its support for the international community’s efforts to eliminate violence and terrorism in all countries of the world.
The statement expressed condolences to the families of the victims and to the government of the Thailand and its people, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
