A Qatari woman has donated one-third of her wealth as a permanent endowment for various acts of philanthropy.

The Department of Endowment at the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has received the will of the woman, which dedicates one-third of her inheritance of movable and immovable assets to be managed by the department and spend the income from these properties in charitable activities and to promote piety. Earlier, the same person had donated a vacant plot of land, where a mosque has been built, in addition to a two-storey residential building comprising six apartments.
These are currently managed by the department and the income spent on the designated fields of charity, Awqaf said in a statement on Saturday.

The department also has taken the necessary procedures to follow up the implementation of the will, to achieve the vision and wishes of the philanthropist in accordance with the standard regulations and the set religious norms in such cases.
Endowment is encouraged as a form of a well-established and continuous charity that goes beyond the lifetime of the donor.
Though Awqaf has not released the price of the donated assets, it is considered to be of substantial value, a source familiar with rich citizens making endowments said.
The Department of Endowment at the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs is the authority concerned in the country to take over and manage the donated properties. The income from the assets is spent by the department in enhancing the principles of cooperation among the various categories of people, to supply the needs of the poor and the vulnerable, to sponsor needy students and launch income generating projects, among others.
