A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a Bangladeshi expatriate, in absentia, to three years in jail for stealing a roommate's money.

The court has also ordered his subsequent deportation, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
According to the details of the case, the man stole the wallet one night while the victim was not present in the room. He grabbed it from under a pillow on the bed and went to the toilet, where he took out QR9,000.
The defendant then kept the wallet back in its original place.
A probe was launched into the case after the roommate discovered the theft and reported it to the police. The police took help of the dog squad to detect the culprit and he was eventually caught.
During interrogation, the defendant admitted to having stolen the money and also told the investigators that he had transferred the amount to his home country in the name of his brother-in-law. However, he did not turn up at any of the hearings in court and was sentenced in absentia.
