Above-normal temperatures, strong winds and dusty conditions are expected in the country over the next few days, the Qatar Met department has said.
The mercury level is likely to be 3-4C above average in the country during this period, with the maximum temperature expected to be range from 37C in the northern coastal areas to 47C in the central parts. In Doha, the temperature will reach a high of 45-47C while the minimum will be 34-36C, according to a report issued by the weather office on Saturday.
In the report, the Met department said fresh to strong northwesterly winds were expected to affect most parts of the country - at daytime - from Sunday until Tuesday. This is due to the extension of the “Indian monsoon low” over the region.
The wind speed will range from 18-28 knots, going up to 38 knots at times over some areas. This will result in blowing dust and a drop in visibility to 2km or less in some areas. The sea level is also expected to rise during this period, ranging from 6-9ft.
In view of the expected conditions, the Met department has urged people to be cautious and avoid exposure to direct sunlight as well as venturing into the sea during the period of strong winds.
Meanwhile, the highest temperature in Qatar on Saturday was 47C, which was recorded in the Qatar University and Doha airport areas, Al Rayyan, Mesaieed and Turayna, followed by 46C in Batna, Al Khor and Sheehaniya.
The maximum temperature forecast in the country on Sunday is 46C in places such as Doha, Mesaieed and Wakrah, while it will be 45C in Al Khor.
