Qatar University (QU) awarded 276 students for their academic and non-academic achievements for the academic year 2015-2016 at a recent function.
The ceremony was led by QU president Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham in the presence of vice president for student affairs Dr Khalid al-Khanji, other vice presidents, associate vice presidents, deans, assistant deans, heads of department, faculty, and students and their families.
Some 264 made it to the Academic Awards category for achieving a high GPA of 3.5 and above. At least 12 students from the colleges of Arts and Sciences (CAS), Business and Economics (CBE), Engineering (CENG), and Law (LAWC) received Student Life Awards for their distinguished accomplishments in leadership, student clubs and organisations, volunteerism, athletics, and employment.
The 12 students included Ahmad Nooh al-Thani (LAWC), Ebrahim Ali al-Kowari and Shouq Abdullah Shaheen (CAS) for leadership; Mohamed Hakim Shalal, Omer Ahmad al-Jumaily and Hamda Abdulamir al-Khamis (CAS) for student clubs and organisations; Sara Tariq Abdurhman (CENG) and Sara Wali Mohammad (CAS) for volunteerism; Khaled Ibrahim Shamiyeh (CENG) and Dana Yahya al-Madhoun (CAS) for athletics; and Khalid Mohamed al-Shibli (CBE) and Sarah Ahmad Salmeh (CAS) for employment.
Dr al-Derham said: “I extend my congratulations to all of you – our excellent students – for your distinguished achievement. This is the first step to further successes in your personal and professional life.”
He also thanked parents and faculty members for their support throughout the students’ academic journey. “Your contribution to their success is invaluable,” he said.
Dr al-Derham added: “Since its inception, QU has achieved a number of rankings successes. This is a testament of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to providing excellent academic outcomes and to producing competent and highly skilled graduates for the labour market.”
Dr al-Khanji said: “We are very proud of our students’ achievement which is the result of their hard work, dedication, commitment and volunteering spirit. We are confident that they will be very successful in their professional and personal life and become the role models for the young ones following in their footsteps. Congratulations and very best wishes for what I am sure will be bright futures for all of you.”
