The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has enhanced precautionary measures to ensure the safety of food during the holy month of Ramadan.

The ministry, in collaboration with the entities concerned, has intensified inspection at food outlets across the country, including Ramadan tents, eateries and kitchens. It conducts the necessary laboratory tests on food samples collected from these places to ensure that they are safe for human consumption, according to a statement.

The MoPH is also keen to check the safety of personally imported foodstuff, especially those for Ramadan, in collaboration with the General Customs Authority. Accordingly, the MoPH has asked all persons who prepare and offer Ramadan meals and import foodstuff for charitable purposes to ensure the validity of the products they buy and consult with the MoPH department concerned about the conditions that should be followed in transporting food as well as GCC specifications in this regard.

The ministry has stressed that storing, transporting or displaying food in an improper way, which does not comply with health regulations, will make it go bad quickly. With Ramadan falling in the middle of the summer, the probability of food going bad increases, which may lead to cases of food poisoning.

In view of these factors, MoPH is eager to involve all parties concerned to monitor different stages of the supply chain to guarantee that the food reaches the targeted persons in their best condition.
