Qatar Charity, Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) and Sheikh Eid bin Mohammad Al Thani Charitable Association have launched a joint Qatari campaign for the relief of Somali people.
The three foundations hosted a ceremony in the capital Mogadishu to launch the campaign attended by a number of Somali ministers and ambassadors of Arab and Islamic states.
The joint Qcampaign is the first of its kind in Somalia in terms of services and the number of beneficiaries.
The QR10mn campaign will provide services to more than 200,000 people in different parts of Somalia.
Commenting on the occasion, Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and Investment Promotion Abdusalam Omer expressed appreciation and gratitude to Qatar for their continuous support. “The campaign for the relief of Somalia comes at a time when Somali people are suffering a lot of problems and difficulties due to disasters,” he said.
For his part, Qatar Charity chief operating officer Faisal bin Rashi Alfahidh said that the joint campaign is a comprehensive project that seeks to support and help those affected by natural disasters (droughts and floods) that swept parts of Somalia.
The aid intends to support and improve the standard of living for the affected families, provide free health services, establish income-generating projects and rehabilitate essential facilities in targeted areas, with a budget of QR10mn.
