Kuwait is suing the International Olympic Committee for 1 billion dollars, the information minister said, after the Arab Gulf nation was suspended over government interference in sports.

‘It is totally unacceptable that Kuwait is treated with this unfair way and is barred from international sports activities without conducting an appropriate probe,’ Sheikh Salman al-Humoud al-Sabah said, state news agency KUNA reported on Thursday.

He rejected allegations that Kuwait interferes in sports and said the country was made to look ‘like outlaws.’

The suit is taking place in Swiss courts, the report said. The country's ban from the Olympic committee took place in October and could affect athletes' ability to compete at the upcoming games in Brazil.
