An agreement signed between Qatar University (QU) and Qatar Charity will establish collaboration in the field of volunteerism and civic engagement.
The terms of the agreement include collaboration between both institutions to expand the culture of volunteerism among youth, and to provide young people with a range of volunteering opportunities inside and outside Qatar.
Also included are the establishment of a Civic Engagement Office at the Centre for Volunteerism and Community Service in QU Male Activity Building, to supervise the volunteering activities and campaigns of both institutions.
The agreement also covers joint volunteering and community service activities, the establishment of a research committee for student training and internship programmes, and co-operation between both parties to provide financial aid to five international students who have satisfied the requirements for admission at QU.
The agreement was signed by QU president Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham and Qatar Charity chief executive officer Yusuf bin Ahmed al-Kuwari in the presence of QU Associate VP for Student Affairs Abdulla al-Yafei, and Qatar Charity Community Development Centre director Ali Atiq al-Abdulla, as well as officials from both institutions.
Dr al-Derham said the initiative will enhance QU students’ sense of civic responsibility and spirit of volunteerism.
The agreement highlights QU’s commitment to developing partnerships with private and government organisations with the aim to drive social and economic growth in Qatar.
Al-Kuwari observed that the partnership will contribute to providing students with a wide range of volunteering opportunities both within the campus and in the wider community, which will help them develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills while empowering them towards becoming the country’s future leaders.
