More than 20 graduates from the Biomedical Sciences Programme at Qatar University College of Health Sciences (QU CHS) have passed the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification exam over the past years, including five last month.
The Biomedical Sciences at the College of Health Sciences is the first accredited academic programme outside the US by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) since 2008. 
“This accreditation reflects the exceptional and standardised quality of education at the theoretical and practical levels. NAACLS certification testifies the excellence and brilliance in biomedical sciences, laboratory technology, patients’ safety and various scopes of healthcare applications,” QU said in a statement.
Professor Asmaa al-Thani, CHS dean and director of the QU Biomedical Research Centre, said: “The College of Health Sciences aims to graduate a specialised generation in various healthcare tracks that meets national and international standardisations to fulfil the ever-increasing demands of scientists and scholars, and accomplish extraordinary achievements among the fields of clinical science and research. Our educational strategy perceives benchmarked and superior academic baseline to shape the desired competencies and meet the requirements of Qatar’s healthcare sector,” said
Dr Ahmad Malki, CHS associate professor and associate dean for academic affairs explained that this “significant success” is considered an improvement milestone at the CHS and QU academic level. “We invest in scholars and scientists to expand the available capabilities and grant extra attention to detail among our curricula, syllabi and the courses offered at the CHS. The forthcoming academic implementations will further heighten in terms of the quality of our graduates.”
Dr Marwan Abu Madi, associate professor and Biomedical Sciences Department head, recognised the graduates who passed the exam and encouraged their fellows to take similar steps towards a future of excellence in the field of laboratory science.
