With the finals of the Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) Ramadan Sports Festival (RSF) looming large over the coming days, participating teams have been battling it out to secure their places in the final stages of the various sports competitions. The competition has been particularly intense amongst a number of teams who came close last year, only to fall at the final hurdle, and who are looking to make amends this year.
Teams participating in the football tournament are battling it out for places in the quarter-finals that are due to take place tomorrow. The fourth day of competition was characterised by assured and convincing performances by the teams leading the table. Elite FC secured an easy 7-0 win against Atletico in Group D, while Shabab Al Rayyan in Group C triumphed against Al Nasr with a convincing 6-0 win. The competition is expected to intensify even further in the coming days as competing teams look to secure their place in the finals, which take place on June 16.
In the basketball tournament, Doha Ballers currently sit at the top of group one following a number of easy victories, including their most recent win, 58-30 against Team Avengers. As a result of these strong performances, Doha Ballers have booked their place in the final and will face Team Spears who lead group two following a number of strong performances including a 60-55 win against Doha Falcons in the semi-finals that took place on Monday in Aspire Dome.
The first three places in the competition will be determined today when two games take place. The first between Doha Falcons and Avengers will determine third and fourth place in the competition, while the second game between Doha Ballers and Spears will determine first and second place in the competition.
The second edition of the staff futsal tournament has included several surprises and upsets as the firm favourites in the competition lose their footing.
Tonight, Team Logistics and Excellence in Football will face each other to battle it out for third and fourth place. In the second game, Bombers and Mediterranean United meet in the final to determine the overall winner of the tournament.
Mediterranean United have impressed with their performances in the tournament to date, netting seven goals against Logistics in the quarter-finals. Bombers put in a convincing display against Excellence in Football, earning a 2-0 win in Monday’s second match.
