Cars lie submerged in deep water on a flooded street in London after heavy rains lashed the capital yesterday. A man who became trapped in his car by the rising flood waters in Wallington, south London, has thanked firefighters for saving him. The 60-year-old said he “hugged and thanked” firefighters and called the dramatic ordeal “the closest I have come to death”. Meanwhile a man and a five-year-old boy are in critical condition after being struck by lightning in Northern Ireland.
