A Doha criminal court has sentenced a young motorist to one year in jail for fatally running over a cyclist, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
The court also ordered him to pay a sum of QR200,000 as blood money to the legal heir of the victim.
The court convicted the defendant of driving a motor vehicle without a proper driving licence and fleeing the scene of the accident at the Mesaieed area without seeking help for the victim, causing him to bleed to death.
Eventually, police investigations led to the vehicle involved in the accident and the person who was driving it at the time of the accident.
In the court the motorist admitted his guilt and was convicted of reckless driving.
