HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, the Qatari mediator, Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud and the Joint Special Representative/Joint Chief Mediator (JSR/JCM) and Head of the African Union-United Nations Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) Dr Martin Uhomoibhi have met in Doha with Sudan Justice and Equality Movement and Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Minnawi.
During the meeting, they discussed the procedural issues that will pave the way for the resumption of the peace process between the Sudanese government and the two movements to achieve peace in Darfur.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the following press statement was issued:
The meetings were conducted in a positive, transparent and frank atmosphere, and it was agreed to conduct more consultation with the parties to reach an agreement on procedural issues as soon as possible.
The joint Chief Mediator seized the opportunity of the meeting to call upon the Movements to sign up the AUHIP mandated Roadmap, and to accept the DDPD as the basic framework for peace in Darfur.
The delegation of the two movements expressed heartfelt thanks and appreciations to HH the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and to the Government and people of Qatar for the tremendous efforts they have been exerting to achieve peace in Darfur and Sudan.
The delegation of the two movements also affirmed Doha as the venue for peaceful settlement of the conflict in Darfur, renewed its trust in the Mediation and expressed its readiness to co-operate with it to reach a durable and just peace in Darfur in the very near future.
Following the meeting, HE al-Mahmoud described the talks held by the joint  mediation for Darfur peace during the past two days in Doha with the delegation from Sudan Justice and Equality Movement and Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Minnawi as intensive, positive and transparent.
HE al-Mahmoud said in remarks to reporters at the conclusion of the talks early yesterday, that the two movements have put forward their points of view, as the mediation discussed with them a number of issues.
The two movements’ delegations confirmed that they will continue their efforts to reach a peaceful settlement and affirmed Doha as the venue to establish peace in Darfur.
HE al-Mahmoud said that the two movements also emphasised their confidence in the mediation.
