Al Sailiya are looking forward to a better 2016/2017 QSL season, for which preparations will begin on July 10 before travelling to a foreign training camp in Tunisia.
The coaching staff and management have made great efforts to prepare the team optimally, including player transfers. Al Sailiya recently signed Cameroonian player Alou Efoulo from Saudi side Al Ta’awon.
In the light of preparation for the new season and what the team has achieved in the last season, the QSL website speaks with Sami Trabelsi, head coach of Al Sailiya.
Initially, Sami Trabelsi emphasised his dissatisfaction with the results achieved by the team in the 2015/2016 season in which the team reached seventh place in the Qatar Stars League table with 36 points, adding that it was possible to achieve better results. However, the team squandered a lot of points in the league, with draws and losses, and the reason for this is some obstacles faced by the team throughout the Qatar Stars League season. The most important of these obstacles was the exit of Abdulkader Elias in January after he ended his loan spell.
Trabelsi continued saying, “Sayyaf Karbi’s injury made a significant negative impact on the team results, and in my opinion if Abdulkader Elias continued and Karbi was not injured we were going to finish the league among the top four, because we were not far away from the top four in terms of points.”
The head coach, pointed out that the team was not lucky in the last season, where he encountered some trouble and difficulties. He hopes to avoid these obstacles in the 2016/2017 season, which will be more difficult.   Al Sailiya recently acquired Cameroonian player Alou Efoulo from Saudi Club Al Ta’awon, speaking about the new signing Trabelsi added, “We followed the player with his former club in Saudi Arabia, Al Ta’awon. He was one of the influential players and we hope he has a positive impact for us in the next season.”
He stressed that he wanted the trio of Fawzi Ayesh, Dragos Grigore and Raoul Loe to stay at the club. Ayesh made a fantastic impact in the last season, where he scored 14 goals. Defensive duo, Grigore and Loe were also in superb form in their first season with Sailiya.
Speaking about player contracts, Sami Trabelsi said: “There are some players who we hope to reach an agreement with to move to the next phase, including Jarallah al-Marri.  We also hope for the continuation of the three players including Karim Ali, Sultan al- Kuwari and Hamad al-Obeidi, who played for the team on loan from Al Rayyan club in the last season.”
The Tunisian tactician renewed his contract with Sailiya for three more seasons, Sami Trabelsi said: “Renewing the contract casts more responsibility on me and I appreciate the mutual support provided to me by the club board. I hope to provide a better performance next season.”
The head coach spoke about his ambitions with the team and said, “We hope to have a better season in terms of results and performances and we hope to fight for titles because we have the capacity to do so.”
Trabelsi also talked about Sailiya’s upcoming training camp in Tunisia, “We start training in Doha on July 10 with the participation of all the players. We are going to travel to the training camp in Tunisia where we will play four friendly matches which has not been settled so far.”
