A large number of people attended the fourth general convention of the Nepalese People Coordination Committee-Qatar (NPCC) at Gloria Hotel recently. NPCC is the sister organisation of Nepali Congress (NC), the largest political party in Nepal.
The convention was presided over by NPCC chairman Bimal Subedi. Shankar Bhandari, member of the constitutional assembly and also the central committee of NC, was the chief guest.
Nepalese Charge d’affaires Mani Ratna Sharma attended as a special guest. Other special guests in the convention were Biswo Prakash Sharma, Hari Nath Aryal, Purna Gurung, Kesav Rijal and Ananda Tripathi. Representatives of various community organisations also attended.
In his speech, Bhandari urged various Doha-based Nepalese organisations to focus on people-to-people relations. He praised the role of Qatari authorities for providing jobs to thousands of Nepalese youth and thus supporting the country’s remittance-dependent economy. He urged all Nepalese expats in Qatar to abide by the country’s rules and regulations.
He said, “Though it is not good to send youth abroad for jobs, it is our compulsion to do so.” He also appealed to organisations in Qatar to focus on social activities and not political.
Biswo Prakash Sharma talked about the political scenario in Nepal. He said the country has spent over 60 years in turmoil, and “is still longing for development.” Due to political instability and the limited job market, thousands of Nepalese youths are compelled to go abroad for jobs, he said.
Nepal, Biswo added, has suffered multiple setbacks in the form of an earthquake, a blockade and frequent strikes, but has still managed to do much. He added that the country’s new constitution treats every citizen equally, irrespective of caste, gender, religion or ethnicity.
The second volume of Janasaparka was released in the programme. Hom Karki, Krishna Parajuli, Ganesh Banjade, Rabi Roshi, RK Sharma, Narendra Bhatt, Badri Prasad Pandey, Pukar Pokheral, Abinash Bhatt, Rabina Pokheral, Kranti Singh, Sunil Mandal and many others were felicitated for their contributions to the society in the programme.
The NPCC also unanimously elected its new working committee on the occasion. The committee will be led by Kesav Bhusal. Shankar Neupane and Sunil Kumar Mandal will be the first and second chairmen of NPCC. Mohamed Aziz Ali has been elected as the general secretary, Kedar Bhusal as the co-secretary, Purna Pokhari as the treasurer, and Raji Khatri as the co-treasurer of NPCC.
Ganashyam Neupane, Yakuk Miya, Pursotam Sunuwar, Janardan Neupane, Ram Sayal, Rakesh Shrestha, Mohamed Umer Aalam, Rajkumar Mandal, Chandrakanta Sharma, Rameshwor Mandal, Jeeosha Yadav and Mohammed Oshin Rahin are the new members of NPCC working committee.
Nepalese Charge d’affaires Mani Ratna Sharma attended the programme as a special guest.
