Strong winds are expected in most parts of the country today along with poor visibility due to blowing dust, the Qatar Met department has said.
Offshore areas, too, are likely to see strong winds and high seas today, according to the weather report.
Strong winds and dusty conditions were reported from different parts of the country yesterday, including Doha.
In a post on its social media platforms yesterday, the Qatar Met department said northwesterly fresh to strong winds would continue today, ranging between 15 and 25 knots in inshore areas and going up to 32 knots at times – and beyond that in offshore areas. This is likely to result in blowing dust and a drop in visibility, which may come down to 2km or less in some areas at times.
The seas will continue to be rough with the wave height ranging from 7-10ft, going up to 13ft at times.
The Met department has also the wind speed is expected to weaken gradually in inshore areas tonight. However, offshore warnings will continue until early tomorrow.
The department has advised people in the country to remain cautious and avoid sea activities in view of the expected conditions.
Besides seeing slight to blowing dust at times, inshore areas are also likely to be hot during the day, according to today’s forecast. Dusty conditions are also expected in offshore areas.
Northwesterly winds brought about a drop in temperature yesterday as compared to the previous day. Data available with the Met department showed that a high of 38C was recorded in Messaied, Umm Bab and Doha airport yesterday, while it was only 32C in Abu Samra, Al Ruwais and Dukhan.
On Tuesday, the highest temperature recorded was 46C in Abu Hamour, with several other places seeing the mercury level rise beyond 40C.
Today, the maximum temperature is expected to be 38C in Doha, Messaied and Wakrah, 37C in Al Khor, 34C in Abu Samra and Dukhan and 33C in Al Ruwais.
