A Doha Criminal Court has awarded a six-month suspended jail sentence to a psychiatrist for practising without a licence, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The defendant - an expatriate - used to receive clients at her apartment and offer them psychiatric treatment without obtaining the necessary licence to practise from the department concerned.

Her practice continued for more than five years before officials detected it during an inspection campaign by the authorities. The inspectors found a number of medical reports and files pertaining to her clients.

Upon investigation, it turned out that she had applied for a medical licence more than five years ago. However, she failed to get one as she did not complete the procedures.
