The Academic Bridge Programme (ABP), one of the centres of the Qatar Foundation for Education Science and Community Development, celebrated the graduation of 132 students who made up the 15th ABP batch, at the Qatar National Convention Centre recently.
The class of 2016 brings the total of ABP graduates to 2,697.
More than three-quarter of the graduating class of 2016 are Qatari. The remaining 24% come from 17 different nationalities.
Around 52% of this year’s graduating class has been accepted to one of Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) partner universities.
About 90% of ABP graduates have gained admissions to English language universities both here in Qatar and abroad, mostly the UK or the US.
ABP director Dr Bryan Lewallen gave his comments on the class of 2016.
This was followed by welcome speech by class salutatorian Sara al-Saiqal.
Jawaher al-Khater, the vice-president of the student association, gave the reflections on the academic year.
The keynote speeches were by two ABP alumni, Yousef al-Bader who graduated from the ABP in 2008 and Ameena al-Haroon, an alumnus of 2011.
This year’s valedictorian was Qatari student Fai Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, who was the first in the class academically.
Sara al-Saiqal was the second place holder for the academic year.
