Spanish champions Barcelona will play a friendly in Doha on May 24, the club said on their website (www.fcbarcelona.com). Luis Enrique’s side will play Al Ahli, the current Saudi Arabian league champions.
The game comes as part of the sponsorship agreement that the club has with Qatar Sports Investment and Qatar Airways, the statement added. The five-year deal ends this July.
The squad will leave Barcelona on May 23 (Monday) and return straight after the game the following day (May 24). Barcelona were scheduled to play in two friendlies in Qatar, one in 2014 and one last year, but both were cancelled.
QSL 2016-17 season to kick off on Sept 15
The Qatar Stars League, the highest professional football league in Qatar, yesterday confirmed the dates for the start of the 2016/2017 season. This year’s season will start on September 15, a QSL statement said, adding that further announcements in regards to the fixtures will be made in due course.
QSL sides can now start formalising training camps and signings ahead of the September 15 kick-off.
