Katara Hospitality has announced that a selection of luxurious hotel furniture items will be donated to Qatar Charity (QC).

The donation is part of Katara Hospitality’s ‘ongoing commitment to supporting communities and underprivileged members of society through an integrated approach to corporate social responsibility’, according to a statement, which also notes that QC is a ‘well-deserving recipient of the furniture donation following the refurbishment of one of Doha’s most elegant hotel properties: The Ritz-Carlton’.

The donation includes over 2,000 furniture items comprising sofas, benches and upholstered chairs, coffee tables, lamps, bed sets, headboards, drapery and curtaining, wall hangings and table fixtures.

‘As Qatar’s flagship hospitality organisation, we remain committed to partaking in initiatives that foster the development of our society through our corporate social responsibility programmes. Qatar Charity plays a vital role in supporting our ongoing efforts as one of our partners for addressing charity-related issues,’ said Sheikh Nawaf bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, chairman of Katara Hospitality.

Youssef Ahmed al-Kuwari, CEO of QC, said: ‘Katara Hospitality has supported Qatar Charity through donations for several years, with the company’s management and staff constantly taking a proactive approach to supporting the underprivileged members of our local community. We are very grateful for this generous contribution as well as the ongoing efforts to improve the community through various projects.’

‘Synergies benefiting underprivileged societies have existed between Katara Hospitality and Qatar Charity for several years,’ said Hamad Abdullah al-Mulla, CEO of Katara Hospitality. ‘In addition, Katara Hospitality’s employees support Qatar Charity’s Tayf initiative, a charity programme that involves in-kind donations of items for the benefit of the less fortunate members of society.’

In the past, The Ritz-Carlton, Doha, in co-operation with Katara Hospitality and Fortessa Inc, had donated 10,000 pieces of chinaware to QC. Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel has also, in recent years, donated furniture items from the hotel’s renovation and refurbishment to QC.

Qatar’s flagship hospitality organisation works with relevant stakeholders and charitable organisations to facilitate initiatives that benefit communities in countries where the company operates, the statement adds.

The Ritz-Carlton, Doha is currently undergoing a three-phase renovation that is poised for completion by 2017.
