A new bus station at the northern town of Al Khor is almost nearing completion, a senior official of Mowasalat told Gulf Times on Monday.
"The station is equipped with such facilities as waiting terminal, accommodation for bus staff, petrol station and other mandatory requirements," he explained.
The station, being built near the Al Khor Stadium, will serve as a hub for public transport services in the country's northern areas.
While answering a query on proper bus shelters, the official said work on more shelters would be taken up in the coming months to meet the requirements of passengers.
Asked if companies would be allowed to build bus shelters on their own as part of their corporate social responsibility, the official said Mowasalat is looking into all such possibilities so that the needs of the bus passengers could be effectively met.
About the chances of introducing bus routes to localities where some of the Asian embassies were shifted in recent months, another official of the mass transit department said proposals in this regard have been forwarded to the transport ministry and they are waiting for its nod for introducing services to the areas which are not covered.
Asked about the possibility of re-routing some of the existing routes which have relatively less patronage, the official said the company is looking into it and some buses may be re-routed in the coming months to serve the commuters better.
The official said patronage to circulars 301 and 304 is improving with more passengers using the services these days.
