The two finalists of the 2015 Handball World Championships, France and Qatar, have been drawn in the same group for this year’s Olympic Games in Rio.
Olympic champions France had edged out hosts Qatar to lift the world title and the two teams are sure to renew their exciting rivalry in Brazil.
Also awaiting France at the quadrennial extravaganza are Croatia, after the latter was drawn in Group A too.
Between them, the European handball heavyweights have won four of the past five Olympic gold medals. France also beat Croatia in the final of the 2009 world championships in Croatia.
Also drawn in Group A were Argentina, Denmark and Tunisia. Group B have Egypt, hosts Brazil, Poland, Sweden and Slovenia.
In the women›s event, hosts Brazil - winners of the 2013 world championship - were drawn in Group A alongside Angola, Montenegro, Norway, Romania and Spain.
The Future Arena at Olympic Park is currently staging an Olympic handball test event comprising four local teams.

Women’s competition
Group A: Angola, Brazil, Montenegro, Norway, Romania, Spain
