Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ) marked its 5th Global Safety Day (GSD) recently with more than 1,500 personnel from its offshore and onshore operations participating in a day dedicated to safety-driven activities and discussions.
Reaffirming the importance of safety as Maersk Oil’s (MO) number one priority, all employees and contractors working on offshore platforms, drilling rigs, vessels, offices and warehouses were engaged in sessions on safety-related topics, to share knowledge and to continue to promote an Incident-free work environment.
In 2003, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) established ‘World Day on Safety and Health at Work’ to encourage dialogue on safety-related matters.
This year marks MO’s 5th GSD and the initiative has grown further to include Maersk Group – one of the world’s largest conglomerates – engaging more than 89,000 employees across 130 countries in 2016.
This year’s GSD theme was: ‘Locking in Safety’, which focused on how the company’s values and systems work together for an Incident-Free organisation.
MOQ Managing Director Lewis Affleck said, “Safety is our first priority and our licence to operate, but it’s also central to one of our core company values, ‘Constant Care’, which defines the way we do business throughout Maersk and our mindset towards taking care of our own safety and that of our colleagues.”
