The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, met HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani at his palace in Riyadh yesterday.
HH the Heir Apparent conveyed greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his wishes to the Saudi monarch of best of health and further progress and prosperity to relations between the two countries.
For his part, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques entrusted HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad with his greetings to HH the Emir and wishes of further development and growth to relations between the two countries.
During the meeting HH Sheikh Tamim and King Abdullah reviewed “fraternal relations between the two countries and discussed Arab and international developments,” Qatar News Agency (QNA) said.
Earlier yesterday, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad met with Saudi Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, who is also the deputy premier and minister of interior, at Riyadh’s Conference Palace.
The meeting reviewed “existing brotherly relationships between the two countries and means of enhancing and developing them in different fields, in addition to discussing the latest developments on the regional and international arenas”, QNA said.
HH the Heir Apparent attended a luncheon hosted by the Saudi crown prince.
The function was attended by a number of princes, ministers, ambassadors of the two countries and a number of Saudi military commanders.
In the evening, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad received at his residence at Ritz-Carlton Hotel Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal.
They reviewed “fraternal ties between the two countries and a number of issues of mutual interest”, said QNA.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad also met with Minister of State, Cabinet member and Chief of the Saudi National Guard, Prince Meteb bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, at the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Farm at Janadria.
They reviewed co-operation between the two countries.
The National Guard chief hosted a dinner banquet in honour of HH the Heir Apparent and his accompanying delegation.
Earlier, HH the Heir Apparent and the accompanying delegation were welcomed upon arrival at Riyadh Airbase Airport by Riyadh Province Governor Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz al-Saud.
Qatar’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ali bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud, and Saudi ambassador to Qatar, Ahmed Ali al-Qahtani, and a number of senior military commanders and members of the Qatari embassy staff were also on hand to welcome HH the Heir Apparent upon arrival.
In a statement issued upon his arrival in Saudi Arabia, HH the Heir Apparent expressed “utmost delight for visiting his second homeland, Saudi Arabia, and to convey greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and the government and people of Qatar to the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud and the crown prince and the brotherly people of Saudi Arabia”.
He said: “My visit comes in reply to a generous invitation from Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, the Saudi Crown Prince , the Deputy Premier and Interior Minister, and in continuation to the communication approach between the leaderships of the two countries.”
