As part of its efforts to attain sustainable development, Qatar is effectively managing its natural resources so that the future generations would not have difficulties in meeting their energy and water requirements, HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada has said.
“The average per capita consumption of water and electricity in Qatar is one of the highest in the world and hence the country is determined to rationalise the use of its resources in a more effective and meaningful manner,” he told a meeting held yesterday to mark the fourth anniversary celebrations of ongoing Tarsheed programme of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa).
“Qatar wants to raise better awareness among its people about the necessity of preserving its resources though such an ambitious campaign as Tarsheed,” HE Dr al-Sada pointed out while asserting that the country is committed to acknowledged environmental policies, which are aimed at ensuring sustainable development.
The minister said Tarsheed, held under the patronage and wise policies of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and active support support of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, has adopted an approach based on effective planning, management and constant follow up at each juncture right from its implementation stage.  
“Every step is made to ensure continuity for the ambitious programme in line with the goals and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030,” he said.
Each of the initiatives being made as part of Tarsheed is based on acclaimed international, global, regional and local practices and standards adopted for attaining sustainable development, said HE Dr al-Sada while adding that proper management of water and electricity resources would contribute to improvement in life and also accelerate the pace of progress and development.
At the meeting, Kahramaa honoured several institutions, ministries and individuals who have contributed significantly to the success of the Tarsheed. The authorities also felicitated those who won the competitions organised by the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department of Kahramaa.
The winners: Best governmental organisation  in applying conservation and efficiency standards: Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs; Best conserving buildings segment: Students’ Residential building of Qatar Foundation - Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar Academy at Msheireb Properties, Al Gassar Residential Compound of Alfardan Group, Qatar Shell in West Bay area, Al Ahli Sports Club, Crowne Plaza Doha.
Tarsheed competition  (Green Hospitality in partnership with Amlak International): Grand Hyatt Doha; Best renewable energy initiative competition: Qatar Foundation’s  project to produce 500MW of solar energy in the Education City, Iberdrola Company – Initiative for Green Schools, Green Gulf Company.
Best renewable energy  initiative competition (Public category): Farm of Khalid al-Mutawaa, Ahmed Ghareeb al-Malki. Apps Champ competition: Sara Abdulla al-Mutawwa (Hamad Bin Khalifa University).
