Ooredoo has successfully completed a pilot trial of a new “big data” analytics solution, which will enable companies in Qatar to analyse huge volumes of data to uncover hidden patterns, correlations, and other key business insights.
The Ooredoo Big Data Analytics Centre (BDAC) is an end-to-end secured data science and analytics solution that coordinates multi-source, data-driven science systems and artificial intelligence methodologies to deliver actionable intelligence for companies.
The pilot programme used the BDAC solution to analyse multiple data sets to predict and optimise Ooredoo’s mobile network utilisation. The results generated showed the significant business potential of using big data analytical methods and modelling for business planning and network optimisation.
Ooredoo Qatar chief operating officer Yousuf Abdulla al-Kubaisi said: “Because Ooredoo aims to become the single point of contact for ICT solutions in Qatar, we are increasingly looking to pioneer cutting-edge solutions like the Ooredoo Big Data Analytics Centre service. This multi-node, multicore supercomputer cluster will deliver incredible results for companies, and we are ensuring it is fully-staffed and supported by a highly-trained concierge service.”
Big data analytics solutions offer a host of potential uses for companies. For example, by deploying the solution in a mall or airport, businesses will be able to track customers’ routes through different locations, all the interactions generated while they are there, and the websites they browse during their visit, and then feed this information into a range of models for business planning.
The data can be used to configure data sheets and maps easily based on geocoding readings to support network optimisation so that companies place hubs and network points in the right positions to deliver the best customer experience.
Importantly, Ooredoo has used the pilot programme to ensure that it will be able to offer big data analytics solutions as a service in a first-of-its-kind programme in Qatar. Aside from being able to locate the BDAC facilities required on their premises, customers will also be able to access it via the Ooredoo Cloud so they will find it easy to deploy, flexible, and scalable according to their needs, it said.
The solution is the first-of-its-kind to be fully-retained and located in Qatar, increasing the peace of mind available to customers by ensuring their data remains in-country.
A recent forecast from analyst group IDC suggests that, globally, the big data technology and services market will grow at a 26.4% compound annual growth rate to $41.5bn by 2018, or about six times the growth rate of the overall IT market.
The Ooredoo Big Data Analytics Centre is supported by dedicated staff, software and hardware technologies that support best practices in secured data intensive systems and data sciences.
